The Nevada Rural Electric Association conducts a Candidate Academy every
two years to train candidates for political office how to run a
campaign. The 2010 Academy is slated for Las Vegas on April 13 at the
Desert Rose Hotel and in Reno on April 15 at the Airport Plaza Hotel.
The training begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at approximately 4:30
p.m. and a continental breakfast and lunch is served. Trainers from the
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) of Arlington, VA
will lead the discussions. Representatives from the Secretary of
State's office will also be on hand to inform the candidates about
reporting requirements. Additionally, there will be presentations from
State and local holders of public office.
There is no fee for attendance. NREA understands the importance and
difficulty of average citizens seeking political office and wants to
encourage their participation in the democratic process. The Academy
will provide information on such things as working with volunteers,
communication, fund raising, campaign and finance law, writing a
campaign plan, getting out the vote, election day activities, and other
relevant topics such as communicating with the press. Materials are
provided to take home for study.
The event is open to Republicans, Democrats, third party candidates and
candidates for non-partisan offices. Interested parties for local (city
council, mayor, sheriff, etc), state legislature, statewide office
managers, fundraisers, volunteer coordinators, political party leaders,
community activists and spouses of candidates will all find the
information valuable and are encouraged to attend.
Space is unfortunately limited so registration is required. E-mail
info@nrea.coop to request a registration form or more information.
NREA, NREC A and the other sponsors of the event are non-partisan and do
not endorse any particular party, individual or position.
